The Bernstein Family Foundation has awarded The Kreeger Museum a generous grant in support of its groundbreaking art and music programs for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and their caregivers -
Conversations at The Kreeger Museum. Through this funding and support, the museum will be able to continue to provide meaningful programs for those families affected by AD and other cognitive challenges. Conversations at The Kreeger Museum is the only museum led program offered in Washington, DC. The museum offers these programs without charge four times a month to families affected by this disease. Trained docents and educators lead stimulating and thought provoking explorations of art and music in the museum’s tranquil, light-filled galleries and grounds. Moreover, the museum has recently partnered with Sweet Readers, Inc., a non-profit based in NYC, to provide an innovative intergenerational program for this target audience with middle school students. Breaking through stereotypes and stigma, Sweet Readers gathers young and old of varying cognitive abilities to engage with painting, sculpture, poetry and music in order to stimulate memories, share experiences and observations.

The Bernstein Family Foundation grant will enable the museum to further develop and provide this much needed programming for the Washington, DC area community. More information about the Bernstein Family Foundation may be found at www.bernsteinfamilyfoundationdc.org. More information about Sweet Readers may be found at www.SweetReaders.org For more information about Conversations at The Kreeger Museum please click here.
