DRIP AND DYE: LET'S PUT THE PAINTBRUSH ASIDE!

Saturday, March 3
10 am-12 noon

Albert Stadler, Constellation, 1972. Acrylic on canvas

During this workshop, students will discover how to create a painting without using a traditional brush. Teaching artist Valeria Caflisch will lead students in a study of the works of artists who chose to apply paint to canvas in an unconventional way – Sam Gilliam and Albert Stadler in The Kreeger Museum but also Jackson Pollock and Polly Apfelbaum – before creating their own individual work with dripping and dying techniques in the workshop.

CREATE A PORTRAIT

Saturday, May 5
10 am-12 noon

Pablo Picasso, Head of a Woman with a
Hat
, 1939. Oil on canvas

After studying the Kreeger's collection of portraits by Chagall, Picasso, Miró and others with teaching artist Susan Hostetler, students will examine the elements of portraiture and create a likeness by compiling digital images, line drawings and watercolors. Students are encouraged to bring photographs of themselves, family and/or friends.
