Pancika and Hariti are yakshas, terrestrial deities or nature-spirits found in the Buddhist and Hindu traditions. According to the Buddhists deities can die and be reborn like humans, and they too can learn from the Buddha and are devotees to his teachings.

Hariti is a major figure in Buddhism as a protector and nourisher. Her likeness can often be found outside monastic dining halls. Pancika was a military leader and is sometimes presented as Hãriti's consort.
