Jazz at The Kreeger
In collaboration with Elijah Jamal Balbed, The Kreeger Museum is honored and thrilled to present Jazz at The Kreeger, a series that furthers our mission to share music across the city. Now in its fifth year, this series supports and spotlights the wealth of musical talent in our metropolitan area.
Classical Concerts
Each year The Kreeger Museum presents a select number of classical concerts in the Great Hall. Enjoy exquisite melodies performed by critically acclaimed musicians in a gallery space designed to host live music. Recent concerts include the Cafritz Young Artists of Washington National Opera, Heifetz International Music Institute, and the Trio Zimbalists and Erinys Quartet of Curtis Institute of Music.

First Studio
Young artists ages 3-5 and an adult companion are invited to spark their imagination as they explore the paintings, sculpture, and architecture of The Kreeger Museum. This program includes a museum tour, story time, and a hands-on art making experience.
Collage My Heart Workshop
Join us for a fun and joyful activity centered around connecting to the things we love, enjoy, and are inspired by! Participants will be guided through a collage process that is interactive and engaging as we focus on our “hearts desire” as represented visually. Young artists will cut, glue and paste images from magazines and tell a multi-dimensional visual story about themselves in the process. No experience necessary. This workshop is recommended for ages 6 and up.
Paddle Doll Making Workshop
Get creative while learning about the Paddle Dolls of ancient Egypt in this all-levels mixed media workshop. Participants will create an original piece of take-home artwork inspired by these dolls and their powerfully unique history. This workshop can be modified to accommodate a variety of ages and experience levels.
Printmaking 101
Printmaking 101 will begin with a tour of select artwork demonstrating color and layering on view at The Kreeger Museum, then head to the studio for another kind of artistic exploration. In the studio, participants will play with layering colors and images, learn monoprinting techniques, and experiment with collage on monoprinted images. This workshop is recommended for young artists ages 8-12.
Ready, Set, Stencil: An Educational Workshop on Frank Stella’s Protractor Series
Many artists use stencils as tools in creating their artwork. Artist Frank Stella used the protractor as a tool for his artwork in a series called Protractor Series. A painting from this series, Flin-Flon VIII, is a part of the permanent collection now on view at the museum. Our Teaching Artists will lead participants through a Stella-inspired workshop exploring and creating intriguing designs using a single tool, the protractor. No experience necessary, but participants should come prepared for a fun, colorful challenge! This workshop is recommended for young artists ages 8-12.
Sketching in the Sculpture Garden
Immerse yourself in the landscape of the season while exploring its interaction with the sculptures' form in the Sculpture Garden through a sketching class. This workshop is recommended for ages 12 and above.
Winged Things Art Activity
Make a thing and give it wings! Participants use their imagination to create a unique "winged thing" and see it take flight. This workshop is recommended for young artists ages 3 and above. Parents/guardians are encouraged to remain present.
Winter Watercolors in the Sculpture Garden
Join our Teaching Artists for a family-friendly workshop in painting the garden plein air (outdoors). Participants will learn the history of plein air painting before creating original landscapes. As an added bonus each participant will also leave with a handmade gift. This workshop welcomes all ages but is recommended for artists ages 7 and above.
