Flin-Flon XIII, 1970, is part of the Saskatchewan series, which Stella produced while teaching at Emma Lake workshop for the University of Saskatchewan at Regina. Although he was currently working on shaped canvases, he had no access to these specially produced supports while in Saskatchewan. Instead, he modified the protractor format to fit onto a square canvas. The various works in the series incorporate colors ranging from gray and lime green to the brilliant Day-Glo pink seen in Flin-Flon XIII.
