Although Edvard Munch is known for paintings such as The Scream, he began printmaking in 1894, at age 31, as a way to overcome financial crisis and support his family. Printmaking became a way to further publicize Munch's images and to connect with collectors and dealers. Munch's original intent while printmaking was more to reproduce his drawings than to experiment with a new medium.
