“The light of Majorca is saturated with the purest poetry…It is not at all by chance, not at all a question of mere whim, that I have come to live and work here.”  - Joan Miro

Miró’s Mallorca Series consists of 9 sets of etchings and aquatint. Every set includes 4 images: the original image accented with pure tones of color, a color separation, a black image, and reverse image of the black. In executing the prints, Miró saw in these images the familiar faces of people who lived and worked on his beloved Mediterranean island of Mallorca. The etched title page introduces, and a full color gouache painting concludes the entire display of 38 images. Mallorca Series was acquired in 1973 by David and Carmen Kreeger when they attended the celebration in Palma de Mallorca of Joan Miró’s 80th birthday. This set with the gouache is the most complete and one of only five created.
