This bronze of Eustache de Saint-Pierre was made by Rodin after he completed the Burghers of Calais, at the request of many of his friends. According to G. Grappe, the painter H.-Ch. Cazin posed for the original study of the leader of the Burghers [Catalogue du Musée Rodin, Paris, 1938, p. 44].
