Head of Facilities and Security
Start Date: May 2024
Salary: Commensurate with experience


General Description:

The Head of Facilities and Security is responsible for the physical plant, maintenance, housekeeping, and security of all Museum buildings and grounds; including the safety and security of the staff, visitors, and of the museum collection. 

The Head of Facilities and Security is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week exempt position. Flexible hours are required for occasional after-hours and weekend events/activities, and building emergency situations.


Facility Responsibilities:

• Maintain and monitor all facility systems and equipment, responding to and resolving problems where and when appropriate.
• Monitor climate conditions in gallery and storage areas and download data from data loggers as needed.
• Plan and oversee seasonal maintenance program to ensure proper care and functioning of museum campus and related equipment.
• Working in partnership with staff to prepare for emergencies through risk management planning, coordinate safety training for all staff to include fire safety, fire extinguisher, and evacuation procedures.
• Manage calendar for repairs and maintenance on all buildings and properties.
• Knowledge of OSHA and other environmental regulations.


Security Responsibilities:

• Update, implement, and maintain written Standard Operating Procedures manual for security department as needed and assure compliance.
• Provide and periodically update training of all security staff.
• Monitor all security systems and equipment, responding to, resolving, and properly documenting all alarm circumstances. Informs appropriate staff in a timely manner.
• Monitor behavior of security staff interactions with staff, visitors, and volunteers while ensuring an excellent visitor experience.
• Coordinate standard levels of coverage for all galleries and property throughout the business day and during other special museum events.
• Work in partnership with staff to prepare for emergencies and coordinate safety training and supplies for all staff to include fire safety, fire extinguisher, and evacuation procedures as well as first aid training.
• Serve as gallery security when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

• Experience in facilities management in a museum or educational institution.
• Background in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Knowledge in maintaining a facility's HVAC, plumbing, and humidification systems.
• Knowledge in addressing and resolving issues and situations which are potentially hazardous or which may cause loss to the Museum.
• Competent writing and communication skills – including the ability to communicate technical information.
• Perform effectively as a member of a team in carrying out the Museum's stated Mission.

Part-Time Art Handler
Rate: $35/hour


Qualifications:

• Previous experience with hands-on installation and deinstallation of complex, and preferably, contemporary art installations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with museum best practices for object care and handling, packing and moving of artworks, and appropriate display techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience working with exhibitions teams.
• Good organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work in physically demanding situations, including heavy lifting up to 50 pounds and working at heights.
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends. 


Responsibilities Include:

• Art Handlers/Installers assist with delivery/receiving and installation/deinstallation of artworks and preparation and maintenance of exhibition spaces.
• Responsibilities may also include: construction of exhibition furniture and crates; packing and fitting crates, and assistance with inventory control and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• The Art Handlers/Installers generally work during a 2-week installation and deinstallation time frame.
• Art Handlers/Installers report to and provide support and assistance to Registrar.
• Prepare and organize tools and equipment required for installation and deinstallation.
• Assist with incoming and outgoing art and equipment shipments.
• Prepare gallery spaces for exhibition, including wall repair and painting.
• Assist in the construction and preparation of art installations, exhibition furniture, crates, and packaging.
• Handle, move, place, and prepare art objects.
• Assist artists who are on-site for installation/deinstallation.
• Assist with the installation of A/V equipment, including speakers, monitors, and projectors.
• Assist with lighting of gallery spaces.
• Install labels, signage, and other didactic materials.
• Other duties as assigned.
